There were many worthwhile projects discussed, but I am pleased to say that the new Council saw fit to allocate some of the funds to our wonderful old Zamia. This included the money set aside from the recent sale of the land from beside the Polish Gallery, and a further $240,000 from the Q150 allocation to make the Zamia makeover a reality’.

The Committee and members of the Little Theatre have expressed their thanks to the Mayor and six Councillors of the new Scenic Rim Regional Council for believing in the Zamia Project and allocating these funds, along with the land sale funds, to the restoration of the Zamia. The funds raised by the community for the Zamia over recent months will also be used. The Little Theatre will continue with fundraising activities for the Zamia as part of their commitment to Council for the restoration.

The Tamborine Mountain Little Theatre will ensure the ongoing maintenance of the theatre. There are also internal building works that will require some further funds, such as purpose-built dressing facilities and storage areas. ‘The TMLT have been working amicably with Council in the group’s role as lessee of the Zamia,’ said Warrick. ‘We are looking forward to restoration commencing as soon as possible. We know the community have been waiting patiently to attend movies and theatre productions once more, and to use the building for other cultural and community projects. The Theatre Group is already planning the opening of the Zamia and a full year of activities for Mountain residents to enjoy. This is a wonderful outcome for the Mountain Community and the dear old Zamia’.

BRAINSTORMING SESSION

It was a beautiful day to meet to discuss future productions and Geissmann Oval was a perfect setting. Graham and I had been working feverishly to finish all the CD's that were needed to be handed out to the cast, and I was printing out inserts just minutes before we had to leave. The presents that had been brought for the "bride and groom" over the two nights were auctioned off adding more money towards the restoration of the Zamia.

Warrick gave speech and handed out gifts to many of the helpers and we all enjoyed the provided salad lunch.

Following lunch we "went to the movies" in the Howard's converted garage, and Warwick showed a couple of films including a very funny old news item about life in the Gay '90's followed by a short excerpt from a W. C. Fields film; my word those actors certainly worked hard for their money in those days!

Horrie has the last word!

More photos can be seen on the Gallery Page.

DIMBOOLA - Performances

What two excellent nights! The actors were excellent, the audiences encouraging and the food seemed to go down well; the Wonglepong CWA certainly lived up to their reputation.

We couldn't have asked to better weather, although, especially on Friday the weather was pretty humid and the problem was we couldn't have the fans on because they were so noisy; still, at least the rain wasn't thundering down on the roof! On Saturday it was pretty hot during the day, up to 33c in places, and after the very ordinary weather we had been experiencing over the last couple of months or so, it caused an electricity breakdown; we hoped it wouldn't happen that night and, fortunately, a cool change came in around during late afternoon so things were much more comfortable. We did have some sound clarity problems, but most of them were exacerbated by the very poor acoustics of the hall - we can't wait to return to our "home" in the Zamia were the acoustics are second to none.

All the actors did themselves proud, and I am sure their respective friends and family were very pleased for them.

Many members of the audience decided to contribute to the occasion and dressed up in sixties style outfits and some even brought presents for the "happy couple" !

One good thing with this production was that it brought many new members to the group and after seeing their performances I would say that TMLT are very fortunate to have them. Also, as it was a large production it also meant we needed a more people than usual working back stage, doing the waiting, clearing and washing up, not to mention our regular stalwarts working on the bar. Using bar waiting staff avoided the usual scramble at the bar, and certainly stopped too much audience movement around the hall. With Lynn Howard at the helm of the backstage arrangements the whole service side of the nights went of without a hitch. Jenny Sutton kept the acting side of things in order so, all in all two good nights were had by all and the financial result is that we now have more money for the restoration of the Zamia. Well done, everyone.

Below is a photograph of the cast taking their bows in front of an appreciative audience. What a busy morning!

About 10 or 12 people, or it could have been more, I didn't count, turned up to help set up the stage and auditorium at 10 o'clock this morning. First of all the stage had to be laid, which consisted of felt underlay, pallets then board. After which all the tables and chairs were brought out and set up. Balloons had to blown up, tables laid, cutlery laid out, and the top table prepared and decorated. The lights also had to be set up and all of this during one of the hottest days we have experienced for quite a while. By 1pm most of it had been done and the ladies from the Wonglepong CWA had turned up to prepare the meals for this evening.

I took a few photos on the way and they can be seen on the Gallery page.
